Sebastion Marrero is a commission miniature painter from Florida, United States.
Secret or loud and proud painter/gamer?
By this point, it basically defines my life and it’s hard to picture me without it.
What age did you get into painting and what started it off?
I first painted a model when I was 14 but I started getting serious about getting better around 2012. What started it off was wanting to paint with fully painted armies. At this point, I’ve painted over two and a half thousand models and still feel like I need to improve.
What was the first model you ever painted?
It was an Ork Nob that a Games Workshop store in Vienna had for demonstrations. I basically went with my cousins and started with some guidance. Was basically hooked from there.
What is your favourite brush/paint brand?
Dropper bottles and Infinity being my favourite game have made me prefer Vallejo these days, although Scale 75 has quickly risen up to my favourites as well.
What are you working on right now?
These Warhammer 40,000 armies (Imperial Guard, Eldar, Dark Eldar) and my tenth set of commissioned Gloomhaven miniatures.
What model would you love to paint that you haven’t done yet? What models do you really enjoy painting?
I’ve been wishing I could paint a proper loyalist 40k Primarch like Vulkan or Guilliman. After reading so much from the Horus Heresy series and 40k audiobooks while painting I can’t help but get the urge. They’re just so full of personality and details to me. The models I tend to enjoy painting are singular models meant for role-playing games. I love bringing a person’s player character to life.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
For camouflage patterns, I often look at animal skin or World War uniforms. More often than not I’ll have a bit of inspiration here and there from movies and tv shows, so you might catch me making a cheeky reference to a cartoon character with an elf I painted.
What other creative outlets do you use (music, canvas, art, etc)?
I draw on occasion, as well as sometimes colourize black and white pictures. On top of that, I like travelling a lot to learn about history, sights, and experience culture shock.
What is your favourite convention or event? What event would you like to go to?
Anyone with a tabletop tournament is good for me, I’ll often have Crucible, Orlando be in a soft spot in my heart because it was the first big event/convention I went to.
