Meet a Golden D6 contributor – Rubén Torregrosa

Secret or loud and proud painter/gamer? Both of them at the same time. I mean, for example I have two FB accounts. A personal one where I have my “regular” friends and then a specific account only for painting. Let say that I do not want to bother people that is not interested as much as I am in this hobby!

What age did you get into painting and what started it off? I do not remember! But very early. My father and grandfather painted 1/72 plastic miniatures and scale models and at some point I started to imitate my father.

What was the first model you ever painted? Not sure. But I still have some blue WWII Germans and some Roman legionaries in 20mm. Poor guys!

What is your favourite miniature or company's miniature to paint? Currently, let say Totentanz Miniatures (15mm Thirty Years War), Khurasan Miniatures (random 15mm ranges) and WestWind (28mm: Empire of the Dead, and Secrets of the Third Reich; and 15mm: Forged in Battle / war and empire).

What is your favourite brush/paint brand? Definitely, Winsor & Newton!

What are you working on right now? On my PhD hahaha. I am preparing a book about painting 15mm miniatures.

What model would you love to paint that you haven't done yet? Mmm, I love “paperpanzers” and E-series tanks. 15mm, of course. One that has never been manufactured in 15mm (wink, wink!) is the Leopard (VK1602). It is like a mini Panther. I NEED IT!

Where do you get your inspiration from? Anywhere! Movies, books, magazines, a simple conversation in a bar; anything can be used as inspiration! Sometimes I accept commissions to paint something that I did not even know that exists. It is a nice way to discover new periods and miniatures!

Any hobby tips or cheats to share? The best teacher is the practice. Paint, paint and then, continue painting.

What other creative outlets do you use (music, canvas art, etc)? Cloning? (I am molecular biologist). Nope, nothing else but painting!

Are you a gamer as well as a painter? Yes! But not a competitive one. I only play with friends to have fun.

What's your game of choice? I have recently re-discovered Warhammer in the shape of Age of Sigmar. I really like it. Otherwise, currently I only play Malifaux. And of course, I LOVE Mordheim. Best game ever created!

What game systems do you play? I do not have time to paint my own models. And I have not so much time to play. So I try to play skirmish games.

How long have you been playing? Do not know. Let say for 15 years! I started with Games Workshop stuff and I continue with Flames of War. Then I started to play everything.

What interests you about those games? They are fun! and you also have some extra motivation to paint your models. For example, now that I am starting to play AoS some friends and I have started a “painting league” with the idea of setting up our armies in one year.

What is your favourite convention or event have you gone to? I have been twice in Salute (London) and I really love it. But I would like to attend as well Crisis in Belgium! I have heard that is amazing.

Favourite gaming moment/war story? Without any doubt WWII and 30 years War.
